Primary education
Primary education comprises grades 1-9, and it is intended for the entire age group (7-16 years). Primary education is free of charge and provides each person with the same qualifications for further education. The aim of primary education is to teach the knowledge and skills needed in life and to ensure an equal educational foundation for everyone. A further aim is to support pupils as they grow and take their place in a humane and ethically responsible society and to promote culture and equality in society.
During the first six years, teaching is generally provided by a classroom teacher, who teaches all or many subjects. Teaching in the three upper grades is usually taught by different teachers in each subject area.
The new City of Salo has 38 school units and nearly 6,000 pupils in primary education. More than 1,500 pupils come within the scope of school transport.
Special needs educational services are a natural part of primary education.
In Salo, after-school activities are also an organisational part of primary education services.
