Student welfare
School psychologist
The aim of the school psychologist´s work is to enhance the school attendance and welfare of children and young people by addressing problems as quickly as possible. The school psychologist participates in the schools´ student welfare groups and meets students in their own schools, which makes it easier for them to utilise the services.
Parents, a teacher or even a student can contact the school psychologist concerning, for example, a child´s development, learning or matters related to the life situation in general. The school psychologist assesses the child or young person´s need for help via discussions and, if necessary, uses tests to evaluate learning skills and difficulties.
The school psychologist co-operates with the rest of the school staff to resolve problem situations and direct the student and his/her family to other support services when necessary (for example, social services, family counselling clinic, psychiatric services for children and young people). All services are confidential.
You can contact the school psychologist through your child´s school.
