DATABASES TO HELP YOU WITH INFORMATION RETRIEVAL

There are a lot of databases and other sources of information in the Internet that you can use. Some of those in the list below are accessible only from the computers in the Salo City Library (i.e. the main library and the branch libraries) while others are freely available from any computer.

ERIC
An online digital library of education research and information. ERIC provides unlimited access to more than 1.4 million bibliographic records of journal articles and other education-related materials. If availabe, links to full text are included.

ETDEWEB
Database on energy research and technology information.

EUR-Lex
EUR-Lex provides free access to European Union law.

FENNICA
The National Bibliography of Finland contains information about monographs, serials, maps, audiovisual materials and electronic publications printed or produced in Finland. FENNICA also includes materials published outside of Finland that relate to Finland or are written by a Finnish author.

Finlex
Public Internet service on juridical material and Finnish legislation.

Info Bank
The pages of Info Bank contain important basic information for immigrants on the functioning of society and opportunities in Finland.

Kontentti
An index of articles (over 15 years of age) of selected Finnish magazines.

Melinda
Melinda is the union catalogue of Finnish libraries, including university libraries, libraries of universities of applied sciences, and some special and public libraries.

MOT Dictionaries - available only in the libraries
Finnish-English-Finnish and Finnish-Swedish-Finnish dictionaries.

National Biography of Finland
A collection of 6,000 biographies of individuals who have made important contributions to the development of Finnish society.

National Library Digital Collections
Consists of digitized newspapers, periodicals and small printed items from the collections of the National Library of Finland.

NatureGate
NatureGate contains plenty of images of wild species and recordings of birds´ calls and songs. It is designed to help you to identify plants, birds, butterflies and fish.

Official Statistics of Finland
A comprehensive collection of statistics describing the development and state of society. They comprise nearly 300 sets of statistics on 26 different topics.

Oxford Art Online (former Grove Art Online) - available only in the libraries
An encyclopedia of art consisting of Grove Art Online, The Oxford Companion to Western Art, Encyclopedia of Aesthetics and Concise Oxford Dictionary of Art Terms.

Oxford Music Online(former Grove Music Online) - available only in the libraries
An encyclopedia of music consisting of The Oxford Dictionary of Music, Grove Music Online and The Oxford Companion to Music.

PressDisplay - available only in the libraries
Contains international and Finnish newspapers in electronic facsimile editions from over 90 countries in 48 languages. Newspapers are available immediately after being published and they stay in the archive for 60 days.

PubMed
Comprises over 21 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books.

Suomen lääkärilehti - available only in the libraries
The articles of the Finnish Medical Journal starting from the year 1992.

Suomi.fi
A one-stop service of Finnish public administration for citizens. The portal contains e-services and forms, information links, information packages, legislation and news from public administration.

Viola
The Finnish national discography and the national bibliography of sheet music. Viola contains references to Finnish sheet music since 1977 and to sound recordings since 1901.
